LANCASTER — Construction is underway at two long-term care homes being built by Arch in Lancaster and Prescott. These projects are part of the government’s plan to protect Ontario by creating good jobs and building for the future, while ensuring long-term care residents get the quality of care and quality of life they need and deserve.

“As Ontario continues to age, our government is making historic investments to protect families and their loved ones,” said Natalia Kusendova-Bashta, Minister of Long-Term Care. “Today’s announcement is great news for communities across Eastern Ontario, and will ensure that 256 people will get the care they need, in modern and safe homes.”

The projects are redevelopments of existing homes and will feature 68 new and 60 redeveloped beds, respectively, for a total of 128 beds in each. Both homes will also feature designs that include larger resident common areas and air conditioning throughout. The homes are centred around ‘Resident Home Areas’ (RHAs), each of which creates a more intimate and familiar living space for up to 32 residents, with dining and activity areas, lounges and bedrooms.

The Prescott project is a redevelopment of Wellington House Nursing Home. The four-storey home will house multiple lounges and activity spaces, therapy rooms, a salon and a place of worship, along with a designated RHA on each floor.

The Lancaster project is a redevelopment of Lancaster Long Term Care Residence. The three-storey home will feature four RHAs, multiple terraces, extensive views of landscaped courtyards from the dining areas and abundant natural light.

These projects are part of the Ontario government’s continued progress toward its commitment to build 58,000 new and upgraded long-term care beds across the province, as outlined in the 2025 Ontario Budget: A Plan to Protect Ontario. The government is improving long-term care to ensure Ontarians get the quality of care and quality of life they need and deserve. The plan to improve care for long-term care residents is built on four pillars: staffing and care; quality and enforcement; building modern, safe, and comfortable homes; and connecting seniors with faster, more convenient access to the services they need.
