Ontario Celebrates Opening of Mon Sheong Dr. Paul Woo Long-Term Care Centre

New home brings 224 modern long-term care beds to the community

STOUFFVILLE — The Ontario government is celebrating the opening of the new Mon Sheong Dr. Paul Woo Long-Term Care Centre that is adding 224 modern long-term care beds to the community. This project is a recipient of the construction funding subsidy top-up and is part of the government’s plan to protect Ontario by creating good jobs and building for the future, while ensuring long-term care residents get the quality of care and quality of life they need and deserve.

“The opening of the new Mon Sheong Dr. Paul Woo Long-Term Care Centre marks a major milestone in our government’s plan to protect residents and increase access to world-class health care across the province,” said Natalia Kusendova-Bashta, Minister of Long-Term Care. “Now that construction has been completed on a second Mon Sheong home in Stouffville, 224 more residents have a safe and modern place to call home.”

The new Mon Sheong Dr. Paul Woo Long-Term Care Centre provides 224 new beds and is designed around seven “resident home areas” that create a more intimate and familiar living space for up to 32 residents with their own dining and activity areas, lounges and bedrooms. It features therapy/activity rooms on each floor, a beauty salon, a multi-faith place of worship, palliative care programs and features a secure outdoor courtyard with pond views. With construction complete, the new home will support more than 300 jobs including staff positions in nursing, personal support work, dietary aides, program aides and administration.

The new home is adjacent to the 320-bed Mon Sheong Stouffville Long-Term Care Centre that opened in October 2021 and is part of a larger campus of senior living and services, located on Sandiford Drive. Both homes offer quality care services to the increasingly diverse community and will be joined by a third Mon Sheong long-term care home with 320 beds that is currently in the planning phase, which will create a total of 864 long-term care beds at this campus site once it’s completed.

This project is part of the Ontario government’s continued progress toward its commitment to build 58,000 new and upgraded long-term care beds across the province, as outlined in the 2025 Ontario Budget: A Plan to Protect Ontario. The plan to improve long-term care is built on four pillars: staffing and care; quality and enforcement; building modern, safe and comfortable homes; and connecting seniors with faster, more convenient access to the services they need.

Quick Facts
  • Mon Sheong Dr. Paul Woo Long-Term Care Centre is located in Stouffville and is licensed to and operated by the not-for-profit Mon Sheong Foundation.
  • As of January 2026, 164 projects representing a total of 25,893 new and redeveloped beds are completed, under construction or have ministry approval to start construction across the province.
  • The government is continuing its ambitious and extensive long-term care construction campaign with the 2025 Long-Term Care Home Capital Funding Policy and Capital Funding Program (CFP). The CFP provides a funding framework that better reflects regional cost variations while addressing diverse operator needs within the long-term care sector.
  • The CFP replaced the construction funding subsidy (CFS) and the time-limited CFS top-up that were introduced in 2022 and resulted in the largest construction of long-term care projects the government has achieved in a single year.
  • The province is taking innovative steps to get long-term care homes built, including modernizing its funding model, selling unused lands with the requirement that long-term care homes be built on portions of the properties, and leveraging hospital-owned land to build urgently needed homes in large urban areas.
Quotes

"The opening of the Mon Sheong Dr. Paul Woo Long-Term Care Centre is an important milestone for our community. In 2018, our community was one of the most underserved in the province. Today, we are leading the way with greater access to new, modern long-term care homes. This means better care right here in our community for the same people who helped build our town."
- Paul Calandra

"The opening of the Mon Sheong Dr. Paul Woo Long Term Care Centre is a proud moment for Stouffville and a meaningful investment in the care and dignity of our seniors. This modern, purpose built home strengthens our community by expanding access to high quality long term care while reflecting Mon Sheong Foundation’s longstanding commitment to culturally responsive services. We are grateful to the Province of Ontario and all partners who helped bring this important project to life for the residents and families who call Stouffville home."

"With the addition of 224 new care beds at the Dr. Paul Woo Long-Term Care Centre, we now operate a total of 1,001 beds across five locations, making us the largest non-municipal, non-profit long-term care provider in Ontario. We are dedicated to expanding quality senior care to those in need, and our active development of new long-term care centres is made possible by the unwavering support of all levels of government, sponsors, donors and the community."
