Service Description: Driver evaluations for people who have a medical condition that may affect their ability to drive. A driving assessment is done if they are unsure of your abilities to drive safely or if a driving license has been put under suspension by the Ministry of Transportation (MTO)

Services include Occupational Therapists and specialized licensed driving instructor, medical fitness to drive evaluations, driver training, vision waiver assessments, vehicle and adaptive equipment prescriptions, and driver anxiety assessments/reintegration

Conditions that may result in the need for an evaluation are:
  • Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Stroke
  • Amputation
  • Driving Anxiety
  • Spinal Cord Injury
  • Visual Impairments

Evaluations consist of three parts:
  • in-clinic assessment, and includes vision screening (to ensure minimum requirements for driving are met), cognitive assessment (reaction time, thinking skills etc) and a physical assessment (movement, strength, feeling etc)
  • on-road assessment conducted in one of the Skill Builders vehicles
  • feedback session which is a review of all the testing and the Occupational Therapist's interpretation of the results
